Boys at Risk III
Helping Boys Thrive
November 3, 2021, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, Santa Fe Community Convention Center & Online
This one-day event is for parents, teachers, social workers, counselors, and others who work with and care about boys. It features three presenters who have devoted their careers to understanding how to save our sons from the school and social failure that too many boys now experience.
From infancy to adolescence, many boys need more understanding if we are to nurture their nature to play a part more equally in society, and to be socially responsible as partners and contributors. For a new look at this situation, from a biological-psychological-social perspective, come hear three dynamic speakers who will provide a fresh and needed different frame of reference.
Did you know that in New Mexico, boys…
- trail girls on almost every measure of educational and social success.
- contribute disproportionately to the state’s racial and ethnic educational gap, making up only 40% of the state’s Bachelor’s Degrees and 35% of Associate’s Degrees.
- are more likely to be “disenrolled” from preschool programs.
- are less likely than girls to complete high school.
- lag far behind in basic reading skills while girls score equally on math.
- receive most of the disciplinary measures in our schools and juvenile justice systems.
